Danielle received her B.A. from the University of Delaware.Traditionally, the international security discipline is focused on states and only considers non-state actors that threaten states or their citizens (terrorists, drug traffickers etc.) However, increasingly powerful firms in technology and pharmaceuticals are challenging this conception. Sometimes firms have a lot of power and influence in their relationships with states. This session will explore the issue through a case study of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms making vaccines against COVID-19, looking at the deals they struck and the vital role of these private firms in ending a public health crisis.
