Dr. De Liu
Academic Director of Information and Decision Sciences
Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. De Liu is a Xian Dong Eric Jing Professor of Information and Decision Sciences at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. His research interests include AI and Augmented Intelligence, gamification, and online social platforms with a focus on how human-technology interaction designs affect engagement and outcomes. He is the academic director for the MS in Business Analytics (MSBA) program at the Carlson School and teaches analytics and information systems courses at undergraduate, master, and PhD levels.
Garth Herbert
Associate Director of Recruiting
Carlson School of Management Garth Herbert is an Associate Director of Recruiting for the Carlson School of Management MBA and MS programs. He has spent his career in higher education assisting students at all points in their educational journey, recently moving into Carlson School graduate admissions a year and a half ago. Garth not only works on the admissions and recruitment team, but he is also a recent graduate of the Carlson School Part-time MBA program, granting him a unique perspective as both a staff member and alumnus. He moved to Minnesota five years ago with his wife, and enjoys hiking, attending hockey games, and going out to the movies with his friends.
Dr. Alok Gupta
Curtis L. Carlson Schoolwide Chair in Information Management.
Carlson School of Management Dr. Alok Gupta is a distinguished academic specializing in economic engineering of systems and human-AI collaboration. He previously served as Senior Associate Dean of Faculty and Research and Chair of the Information and Decision Sciences Department at the Carlson School. He holds a PhD in Management Science and Information from the University of Texas, Austin, and began his academic career at the University of Connecticut in 1996. Dr. Gupta has published over 90 journal articles, including 45+ in premier journals such as Management Science, ISR, and MIS Quarterly. His accolades include the NSF CAREER Award, multiple INFORMS Design Science Awards, the AIS Impact Award, and the LEO Award for lifetime achievement. He has held editorial leadership roles, including Editor-in-Chief of Information Systems Research (2017–2022) and Publisher of MIS Quarterly. Recognized for his service and research impact, he is an INFORMS ISS Distinguished Fellow and AIS Fellow. Dr. Gupta’s teaching spans undergraduate, MBA, and PhD levels, focusing on human-AI collaboration, e-commerce, decision support, and IT infrastructure.
